Trip Planning & Route Logistics
Alaska is vast, rugged, and unforgiving. We help travelers design their routes, select park-approved gear, and coordinate complex transport.
Backcountry Consulting
Tap into 17 years of Alaskan outdoor expertise.
Most packing lists are built for Colorado or the Alps. Alaska has thicker bush, colder rain, more aggressive rivers, and no cell service. We review your itinerary to make sure you have what is required to survive.
Route & Logistics Review
Going to Denali, Wrangell-St. Elias, or floating the Kenai? We review your route, advise on river crossing difficulties, trail conditions, and transport links (train, bush plane, ferries).
Custom Gear Specifying
Not sure what rating sleeping bag you need or whether to bring a 4-season tent? We evaluate current seasonal forecasts and terrain details to customize your outfitting spec.
Statewide Staging
We arrange delivery of your rental gear directly to remote logistics depots (Talkeetna air taxis, Lake Hood sea planes, Fairbanks railroad station, wilderness trailheads).
Planning FAQs
- How does gear consulting work?
- After you request a quote, you can describe your route or send your itinerary. Our experienced Alaskans check the details and suggest modifications, like adding a bear fence, choosing a warmer bag, or substituting a lighter tent.
- Can you transport bear spray to remote hubs?
- Yes. Commercial airlines do not allow bear spray. We coordinate with ground freight and local regional air carriers to legally deliver bear spray and fuel canisters to your pickup point in Fairbanks, Talkeetna, or Cooper Landing.
- Is there a fee for route planning?
- Basic gear matching and route verification are included free with every major reservation. Extensive custom multi-day logistics consultations for research teams or film crews are billed at competitive hourly rates.
